Lawn Care
Summer into fall lawn care is more than just watering;
good fertilization is also important. With the continuing
heat the best advice is to fertilize with Dr. Earth
Super Natural Lawn Fertilizer, more often, using
less fertilizer. This will keep the lawn from running
out of nutrients during the last heat of summer
into early fall. Make sure to mow regularly leaving
2 ½ to 3 inches of the grass length. This program
along with shorter days, and cooler evenings your
lawn will look greener.
Plan to attend our grand opening and
the lawn care seminar with Brian Vales, owner
of Lawn Express and Landscape on October 3rd.
Brian will not only help with your lawn concerns;
but will help you with your holiday lighting needs.
This seminar will begin at 11:00am.
Roses
Now the days are cooler and nighttime temperatures
are getting cold your roses will need some attention.
Now is the time of year that we would like our
roses to stop blooming, the best way is to stop
deadheading the spent bloom. If you have not mulched
your rose recently, mulch with a good organic
material to help feed your rose of the fall and
winter.
Mulching
Fall is a great time to apply organic mulch over
your perennials, shrubs and trees. Mulching will
do two important things, keep the soil temperature
consistent, and feed the roots as it breaks down.
There is also the benefit of keeping the weeds
under control. The Garden Shop Nursery carries
Black Forest Organic mulch in 3 cubic bags.
Quick Tip:
It is definitely starting to feel like fall, however
we still have plenty of summer heat. It is a good
idea to roll up your hose and store it in the
shade; this will keep the water sitting in the
hose from getting so hot that it burns the roots
of your short rooted plants.
Featured Plant for Summer to Fall Color
Looking for a great summer blooming shrub, one
that is easy to grow? Then check out the Caryopteris
x clandonensis Blue Beard, Blue spirea, and blue-mist
shrub. This lovely garden shrub blooms summer
into fall with bright blue blooms. There are two
readily available styles of this shrub; the Blue-spirea
is a low-mounded shrub with a longer leaf, while
the Bluebeard grows 3 to 5 feet tall and wide
with an almost lobed leave that is shorter. This
plant does great in well-drained loose soil, attracts
bees, and looks great as a mass planting in dry
sunny conditions.

Shop Nursery Product Pick for Fall Gardening!
On of the best ways to keep your plants healthy
during the heat of the summer is to mulch with an organic material, one of the
best is Black Forest organic compost. Applying
a 2 to 3 inch layer over the top of the roots
of your trees, shrubs and erennials will keep
the soil moist for a longer period of time, keeping
them cooler, and when it breaks down it will feed
the plant in an organic way.
